Today I will be explaining about the folktale called The Princess and the Poison Pea. The story is by Wiley Blevins and illustrated by Steve Cox. I hope you enjoy this book review!

Explain what the story in the book is about.

In the story, it is about a prince. He needed a princess to marry, so the king’s knights came to the kingdom and shouted, “The prince is looking for a princess!”
When they went in the castle, a BUNCH of princesses were there. The queen took the “princesses” to their room to find out if they are real princesses. The queen had 10 bed sheets and put a poison pea in one of the mattresses. "If you are a fake princess, you will die by the morning.” said the queen.
Many dashed away. In the morning, a bunch of bones appeared on the bed. Later, a girl appeared outside their door. The queen put her to sleep. The girl took the pea out of the mattress and slept completely fine. For breakfast, the girl took the pea from last night and put it in the soup. She gave it to the king and queen. Then, she had bones. She did spare the prince; she makes him become the new royal toilet cleaner.

What you think of the book (good or bad)

I think this is an okay story. I really like how the author made it spooky. In my opinion, spookiness makes the story more interesting and fun. I would prefer this kind of story than the original folktale. This is a nice story; you should read it!
